About Nick Zimmermann

Nick Zimmermann

I am Nick Zimmermann, and I am a software engineer. I have always loved computers and video games since I was a kid, and have been a professional software engineer for seven years.

When I was a teenager, I started as a hobbyist modding an old game called Halo Custom Edition where I built Sector 09, Halo: RPG, GTA Halo, Raids and countless other mods! Talk about good times.

My work with Halo Custom Edition is what led me to getting a degree in Computer Science. I knew I was in the right place in the Fall of 2016, when I took C++, Differential Equations, and Physics. Scripting a halo mod gave you a lot of capabilities, but C++ took it to a whole new level! Programming came naturally to me, and combined with Differential Equations and Physics that semester, I was able to reinforce my learning of C++ by building cool programs like DENS (Differential Equations Numerical Solver).

Towards the end of college, I had to work on a project called WeTube with good friends of mine in my Software Engineering class. WeTube allows you to remotely synchronize a YouTube video so a bunch of people can watch it together in real time. We built it with web technologies (JavaScript, React, and RxJS). Naturally, I am a visual learner: pictures, graphs, and other visuals helps me to understand and solidify concepts in my brain. This introduction to the browser and being able to program is how I fell in love with the web, and have been programming it since! I have built countless projects with JavaScript and web technologies, including a game engine using ECS and an app to control my LEGO trains! (client and server).

From here, things took off! I got my first professional job at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory where I got to build internal web tools and become a RedHat Enterprise Linux System Administrator where I fell in love with Linux! My primary operating system these days is Fedora!

Finally, I ended up at Comcast where I've been for the last five (5) years building out the Developer Portal that allows Comcast app partners like Hulu and Netflix onboard their apps to our global ecosystem of devices.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions!
